Red Alert Relief with CAFM

The 1 Minute Tour

As one of Salford’s biggest employers, the University of Salford is a forward thinking university that is committed to the regeneration of the area and aims to provide a safe, vibrant, sustainable and accessible place for students and staff to live, work and study.

University of Salford are using CAFM Explorer, Microsoft Gold partnered product, to manage their Help Desk, Planned Maintenance and Space Management for their campus and residential accommodation.
“With over 100 buildings, comprising of 3 campuses and 2 residential accommodation sites for over 18,000 students, we need an FM software solution that can service the wide range of facilities challenges we face in a timely and responsive manner” says Vicky Booth, Head of Administrative Services within Estates and Property Services “and CAFM Explorer is the perfect solution”.

University of Salford have been using CAFM Explorer for over ten years and have taken advantage of the upgrade support so that they can utilise the advantages of the latest functionality.

“We need efficient and timely call handling and we have introduced CAFM Net to enable our staff and residential students to log and track the progress of their reactive calls” adds Vicky.

By using CAFM Explorer 2012 Work Planner the managers of their internal Trades Teams will be able to schedule their resource to enable them to meet their service level agreements and KPI’s.

The Trades Team on Accommodation sites will use CAFM Mobile to pick up jobs on their Android phones to respond to their immediate and urgent calls. This will enable them to dramatically improve the response times of their Trades Teams as they can pick up, update and close the work orders on the move.

“The CAFM Explorer online applications will provide efficiencies and these will be measured via key reports to track the progress of the SLA’s”, says Vicky. “For example the Help Desk team will monitor the alert status of jobs, so that any jobs on Amber alert can be followed up before they become Red alerts i.e. before they fail the SLA”.

With a portfolio of over 145,000 m2 space, University of Salford will use CAFMCAD’s Space Management application within CAFM Explorer to manage functionality, condition and hazards including asbestos to assist with Risk Management.

As experienced CAFM Explorer users, University of Salford have shown a keen interest in the CAFM Explorer User Group which is run by an independent committee of FM Guru’s who encourage networking and knowledge sharing.

“We have taken part in a number of Splinter Groups to input into the strategic development of CAFM Explorer with the User Group committee”, says Vicky “and this has enhanced our knowledge of the product as well as provided the opportunity to get to know other users and gain an understanding of how they are using CAFM Explorer which has been extremely beneficial”.
